Meet Pianist Kirill Gerstein
10 Oregon Symphony
Pianist Kirill Gerstein returns to the Oregon Symphony
to present the fi rst concert in our Sounds of Home series.
Each Sounds of Home concert focuses on a social issue
that our community – and our country – currently faces.
The concerts featuring Mr. Gerstein explore the theme of
immigration, and few other pianists are better equipped
to address the topic. Gerstein knows the reality of an
immigrant’s life fi rsthand: born in Voronezh, Russia,
he came to the United States at age 14 as the youngest
student ever admitted to the prestigious Berklee College
of Music. By 20, Gerstein had completed both a bachelor’s
and a master’s degree in classical piano performance at
the Manhattan School of Music. Today, Gerstein holds
dual citizenship in the U.S. and Germany.
Kirill Gerstein is featured on
Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue,
November 4, 5 & 6, 2017, the
fi rst installment of the Sounds
of Home Series.
